Differences Between the Level 1 and Level 2 Internship

Thursday, January 20, 2022

Posted by DPMMR Staff at Thursday, January 20, 2022
Have you ever wondered how you get a job as a marine mammal trainer?  Hello, my name is Cristina and I have been a trainer and intern coordinator at DPMMR for about 2 years now, and in that time we have expanded the internship into two separate levels; one focused on foundational skills and another focused on advanced concepts. When we came up with the idea of a level 2 internship, it was surrounded by the thought that this extended internship would be almost like a seasonal apprentice ... Read More

Happy New Year from DPMMR!  We certainly hope that 2022 brings all things healthy and happy to you and your family! DPMMR is kicking off the year, with a continuation of our multiple facility development projects in an effort to further the growth of our business and mission.  Despite a rocky 2020, laden with COVID issues, DPMMR had a prosperous and productive 2021. September 2021 - From the President

Tuesday, September 21, 2021

Happy September to Everyone!      I cannot believe it’s already fall in the Florida Keys (mainly because it’s the hottest month of summer for us and it does NOT feel like fall)! Although September is the start of crisp and cooler fall temperatures for much of the country, in the Florida Keys we have one more month to go before our weather finally starts to cool down (and the threat of hurricanes begins to decrease). Despite the fact that 2021 has flown by at DPMMR... Read More

From the Pod - September 2021

Tuesday, September 21, 2021

Posted by DPMMR Staff at Tuesday, September 21, 2021
From the Pod … Alfonz – Due to our normal September “slow season”, Alfonz now enjoys a lot more free time and spends that free time working on his “Belly Breach” behavior. He began learning this behavior in the beginning of the year and has made serious progress in the last couple of weeks. Previously, Alfonz would only “flop” forward on his belly. However, he now understands how to come all the way out of the water and lift his tail flukes.... Read More

Getting to Know Jett & Tug

Tuesday, September 21, 2021

Posted by DPMMR Staff at Tuesday, September 21, 2021
Life became a little more interesting for our team back in 2016 when we welcomed two very round, very uncoordinated, and very cute baby dolphins to our family. Tug was born to Dinghy on September 25th and Jett was born to Jessica on November 24th, just shy of two months apart. Both male calves were sired by Alfonz and have grown up together over the past five years. During that time, we’ve been able to get to know them and watch their personalities change and develop. Dinghy in labor ... Read More
